Galvanized Pipe
What is galvanized pipe?
Galvanized pipes are steel pipes that have been coated with zinc to prevent rust and corrosion. It is mainly used for drainage, gas supply and more. The installation of the steel pipes were popular in homes prior to 1960. With the replacement of galvanized steel pipes to copper pipes, they are not as commonly recommended to be used.
Galvanized steel pipes are more prone to corrosion and buildup of rust, scale and lime. Rust is a telltale sign of a galvanized pipe needing to be replaced with either a copper pipe or plastic pipe. Rust turns the color of water into a shade of red, orange or yellow. It can stain bathtubs, sinks and showers.
